It was not until I started trying to pursue my goals and dreams that the same people I looked to for support made it seem like I was changing and were silently praying for my downfall. With that being said, I thought a lot of people had my back. Growing up, I was always an easy going person and a trusting individual. We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road? ![]() Brévo Theatre seeks to give a platform to the unheard by highlighting up and coming playwrights, actors, dancers, and directors, by offering a diverse entertainment experience through unconventional color blind casts. Our vision is to cultivate an artistically conscience community through innovative and accessible performances that celebrate humanity and the power of storytelling. Once I completed this show, I developed a true love for directing and thus decided to start Brévo Theatre, where our mission is to enrich the community, tell thought-provoking narratives, and create nurturing environments through the arts. I went on to direct a couple of shows while in college including a full-length dinner theatre show, Kissing the Blarney Stone.Īfter graduating college, I directed my first community production of Let Him Sleep Till It’s Time for His Funeral at The Alligator Community Theatre. Here I found a love of finding the best in everyone and helping to cultivate their individual talents. With that in mind, I decided to get into more directing. Additionally, while attending the South Eastern Theatre Conference, I found myself wanting to be on the other side of the table, creating spaces for myself and other artists instead of trying to fit myself in theirs. Although some scripts may call for someone of a specific skin color or body type, theatre as a whole should be open to interpretation. Although I loved performing, I did not agree with how some director’s cast shows or their audition process. I went on to be cast in various shows such as Detroit ’67, The Colored Museum, and Black Nativity.īy finally obtaining my self-confidence, I even received a Theatre Wing nomination for my portrayal of Emmett Forrest in Lyrique Music Production’s show, Legally Blonde: The Musical. Here is where I really began to find my voice and stepped into who I am. After reigniting my passion, I decided to pursue a double major in Business Administration and Theatre Performance while at Florida A&M University. I finally took a leap of faith and auditioned for my highschool’s musical production and started to find my love for theatre again. I started to experience puberty in the middle of junior high and bullying, which messed with my self-confidence and I struggled with finding the courage to continue acting. I went on to act in various shows throughout elementary school and middle school, however, I took a small break between junior high and high school. Although I attempted film acting, my true love stayed in the theater. ![]() I was cast as a butterfly in my school’s production of Beauty and the Beast and my love for theatre grew from there. I was bitten by the theatre bug when I was only in kindergarten. I was born and raised in Palmdale, CA by way of Huntsville, AL. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
